In October, the Swiss parliament passed a set of innovative adjustments to existing laws that provide the issuance, storage and trading of crypto-securities with an explicit legal foundation. On December 10th, the Federal Council decided to enact the first part, regarding the issuance, already by February 1st 2021. The other parts require implementing ordinances before they can be enacted. These are currently under consultation.
In his role as a member of the expert council of the Swiss Blockchain Federation, Luzius wrote a small contribution (in German) to provide some more background, comparing the newly enabled register securities (Registerwertrechte) to the existing legal forms of securities and their history.
